The Howell ladies varsity bowling team scored big this weekend with a victory Saturday morning over South Lyon East 25-5 and followed that up with a second place showing at the Battle of the Bakers Tournament in Battle Creek on Sunday.
After narrowly dropping the first of the Bakers by one pin the ladies came back strong in the second Baker taking that by 50 pins to go up 6-4 headed into the head to head. During the head to head portion of the meet, the girls only dropped 1 of the 10 possible head to head points while taking total pins on both games and on the series today. Emily Manetz recorded the high series for the day with a 413 followed closely by Lexie Cruse who rolled a 411.
The ladies JV team recorded 30-0 victory by forfeit over South Lyon East with Alexa Miller recording a 208 game and a 336 series on the day.
The boys team didn't fair quite as well on Saturday as the fell to South Lyon East by a score of 21-9. Ryan Bruce was the high man on the day with a 406 series for the Highlanders.
Sunday saw the Highlanders back in action as both Varsity squads were in Battle Creek for the Battle of the Bakers Tournament. Both squads represented well with the boys qualifying as a 4th seed after the 12 Baker games of qualifying and the girls qualifying as a 6th seed headed into match-play.
The boys dropped their first round match hand ended up tied for 5th place.
The girls on the other hand won their first round matchup against the #3 seed Sturgis and took their second round game against the #7 seed Brighton before falling in the finals to the #1 seed Jackson. Congratulations ladies on a great showing and bringing home some hardware!
The Gladiators opened up Tuesday night’s game in Hartland with a 9-0 run but were unable to maintain that momentum throughout the game as they eventually fell to the Eagles 42-39 in a non-league contest.
The Hartland Eagles came into Howell Tuesday night with an unblemished 4-0 record to take on the 2-1 Highlanders in the 2015 Cancer Cup Pink Out night. Both teams skated to a draw in the first period and then with 11:09 left in the second Howell connects on a full strength goal to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams would exchange goals in the 3rd period as the Highlanders handed the Eagles their first loss of the season 2-1.
Howell travels to Walled Lake Northern next on Friday night and the Eagles draw Lakeland in Hartland on Thursday night..
